Proposed Information Centre Planning permission has been applied for to build the new information centre on the site of the dilapidated stables shown below.
Dilapidated stables, proposed site of info centre One of the comments from our Parish Council was that parking on site would be a problem! What a blatant and deceptive lie that was and this Parish Council of Ashburnham & Penhurst should be ashamed and apologies for this deception. The truth is that this charity has over 800 visitors with cars on each of our Open Days and there is never a problem with off-road parking. With lies like this being sent to Rother Planning Department it is not surprising that the permission was refused. When the Charity was trying to get permission to rebuild the hay barn after the great storm it was the same Parish Council that lied again by saying that the Charity wanted the barn for a shooting gallery! It took us 12 years to get permission for our barn back again despite the lies of the Parish Council and the prevarication of the District Council. Anyway we continue our fight against bureaucratic ineptitude and will appeal. Tick to Buy, Tack for Care by John Slack With spring well sprung and grass feed prolific we find more daylight to enjoy our beloved horse or pony. As a member of your family that is totally dependant on you, you probable spend more of your hard-earned income on your four-legged loved one than yourself. Time spent with the animal is time well spent. In many ways the horse is more advanced than us and their sensory appreciation of situations and human behaviour are extremely acute. They tend to be high frequency thinkers whereas most humans are quite opposite. Your behaviour, even your thoughts, should always be exuding calm, positive signs; mixed signals do no favours for your relationship. Speak in a low calm voice as he has acute hearing and there is no place for beating even if he is not accepting your requirements; this would simply make him neurotic. We provide advice freely on a wide spectrum of care, tack, rugs and our rug washing / repair services are available. Much of the rugs & tack are donated to the Charity and after refurbishing are sold cheaply second-hand to raise funds for the horses. It is particularly you , the visitor that helps keep our Rescue service running so pop in when you can. We are rarely shut but a phone call to check we're here is advised.

And a note from Gillian :- It seems common sense to most of us riding round the country lanes that we must have bright reflective clothing on so as to be easily seen. At twilight or overcast days riders are particularly vulnerable as cars often go at speed even where there are hills or bends that obscure vision even more. A short while ago I drove past my friends bay pony and the child was dressed completely in black. The sun was low and I only saw her at the last moment. You must wear a fluorescent tabard or leg band and we have an enormous selection to choose from in the shop. Two days ago a horse was hit by a car near Burwash and died within the hour. Undertakers wear black; don't wear black if you don't want to go there! Funds from Racing We are grateful that the on-line horse racing game that has just been launched is sponsoring Brownbread Horse Rescue. You can help raise funds for us by enjoying the game at http://www.escorialracing.co.uk Shake at Sainsbury's
Tania & Paul Croft with display board behind Both days were quite cold and a rota of helpers kept the shoppers interested. These included, Paul, Tania, Jamie Croft, Scott, Vivian, Mary, Terry & Gladys, Julia, Norma, John and Tony. An amazing £1,038 was raised in the two days and included one £20 note! Many thanks to all those who helped achieve this wonderful result
Tony with helpers Gladys and Terry Fawthrop These ‘shakes' really do work. Please organise one where you live. All you do is write on our headed paper to, say, three local supermarkets asking for a day to fund-raise at their entrance. |
